The Purpose of Perspective

Happy 2021!

I hope that this year is off to a great start for you. Since we have been snowed in, I definitely have a bit more time to reflect-and thus time to chat more about some of those ruminations.

The month of March is a special time for me as it is my birthday month (shout out to my fellow Pisceans :) Usually, I would reflect on my past year of life trying to figure out my shortcomings and gaps in my goals. This year, I decided to do something different-instead of focusing on where I am trying to be, I chose to focus on my progress. Whether with myself, clients, or loved ones, it feels natural to focus on our misgivings instead of our progress, which in turn leads us away from self-love and closer to self-criticism.

While it may seem counterintuitive, creating a space to capture your progress helps us capture the motivation to keep moving forward, particularly during challenging times. It is the same for the times that we may be tempted to focus on the negative aspects in our lives-while it may be comfortable to sit and feel like when it rains, it pours (or when it snows, it freezes), that negativity often robs us of the strength that we need to change our circumstances. While there may be some things outside of our control , it is often our perspective that allows us to see those paths and things that are within our control. When we choose to acknowledge that we do have tools to use, we can find a way to make things work, or at least learn something along the way that helps us grow.

So, this month, I encourage you to look at your perspective with purpose. Are you constantly being critical of yourself? What do you gain from that perspective? How does it feel when you solely focus on the clouds? What might happen if you took a chance and looked at what you have at your disposal (or looking at where you have already been)?

If you struggle with moving towards a progressive perspective, feel free to check out our upcoming event where we will be discussing progression boards and ways to capture your progress visually (you can learn more at: Project Progression 2021 Tickets, Thu, Mar 18, 2021 at 5:00 PM | Eventbrite), or reach out to us for additional information.

Cheers to you and your progress,

Chante’
