Ways to (Mentally) Overcome COVID-19
I spent a lot of time debating whether or not I should write this post. Amidst all of the news reports and emails about COVID-19, I didn’t want to contribute to the overwhelming onslaught of information. Working in healthcare, I have heard a lot about precautions and disaster plans. However, as I spoke to various people I learned that there were many perspectives going on-not just the one posted on the news. For example, I heard of an organization working to provide supplies to the elderly who were not able to get to the store. I also heard from a client who felt at peace during all the turmoil. While some people were fighting over the last roll of toilet paper, these individuals were looking at what they could control and letting go of what they could not.
To be honest, there are a lot of things in our lives that are out of our control. Sometimes that perception that we are in complete control tends to protect us from becoming panicked. However, as soon as the unknown appears, panic ensues, perhaps because we have not learned how to be at peace with things in our lives.
This is not to say that we should not show caution-it is important for each of us to do what we can to prevent the spread of this virus. However, we also have an opportunity here. For those of us working from home, maybe it is finally working on starting your own business or doing some work around the house, or spending time with your family. Perhaps it is reaching out to those in need and checking in on folks that you haven’t seen in a while. Or, maybe it is just checking in with yourself and allowing yourself the time and space to recharge without the bustle of the world around you. Often we say what we would do if we had the time, and, perhaps now there is time for that next step. Monitoring your stress levels can not only help you feel better, but also can help strengthen your immune system. While there may not currently be a cure for COVID-19, we can take care of ourselves during this difficult time.
Over the next few days, I will be posting resources on fringefam.com, ideas on Instagram @Fringegram, and mini-workshops and check-ins via Facebook-Fringefam. I encourage you to check out these resources, and other resources that can help each of us heal during this difficult time. I pray that we all are able to nourish our souls and engage in wellness today, and every day.
Be well,
